Triple Feature Midnite Movie Slumber Party
Saturday August 2nd
midnite-6am
$10, prize bag to those dressed in pajamas
----> Event Description <-----------------------------------------------
Here it is, the very first T&A Triple Feature Slumber Party!
Beginning at midnite, REVENGE OF THE CHEERLEADERS from
1976. Starring David Hasselhoff in his first acting role, the film is
filled with food fights, 10 minute improvisational dance sequences
and enuff cheerleader nudity to make you run all the way home
crying.
Of course you can't leave because the amazing PiNBALL SUMMER
starts at 2am. This 1979 classic is an amzing time capsule of the
Pinball culture as well as tons of sexual hi-jinx and wacky antics.
But nothing can prepare you for the 4am film, JOYSTiCKS. Made in
1983 at the height of video game fever, this raunchy teen film has
valley girls, punks, nerds and jocks all combining forces to stop
the city council from closing the arcade down. The kids have all
night video game battles in the arcade, some dressed in pajamas,
some not dressed in anything. There has never been a film made
like JOYSTiCKS before and since. This could be your only chance
to see one of the true great films of our time.
The night will be filled with trivia giveaways, old 70's & 80's trailers
and free cereal to any person who makes it through all three films!

TOP TEN LITTLE-KNOWN BUSH EFFORTS AGAINST WOMEN AND FAMILIES
Number Ten: Even more ironic than rain on your wedding day.
To head the Office on Violence Against Women, Bush appointed a woman who ran a group actively opposed to the Violence Against Women Act. The group’s web site states “the battered women’s movement has outlived its useful beginnings.”
Number Nine: Glass ceiling? What glass ceiling?
The Bush-appointed head of the Federal Housing Finance Board is a fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute who discounts the wage gap and the glass ceiling, and claims that women are no longer affected by discrimination in the workplace.
Number Eight: Families First?
The House passed the so-called “Personal Responsibility, Work, and Family Promotion Act of 2003” to increase the number of hours that welfare recipients are required to work from 30 to 40 hours, while providing $200 million annually for programs to promote marriage and $50 million for programs to promote abstinence.
Number Seven: You play, you pay.
Bush tried to eliminate health insurance coverage for contraceptives for federal employees and their dependents. Democrats fought back and won.
Number Six: The sky looks clear to me . . .
The Bush Administration supports the so-called Clear Skies Act of 2003, which provides special privileges for companies violating emissions caps to allow them to avoid fines and possible legal action. The bill neglects to provide any curbs on carbon-dioxide emissions, which are most directly linked to global warming.
Number Five: Head Start False Start
To serve as Assistant Secretary for Family Support in the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, Bush appointed the president of the National Fatherhood Institute who had said that low-income kids whose parents aren’t married should be kept at the back of the line for Head Start and other benefits. He tried to back away from these statements at his confirmation hearings. Once appointed, he has tried to offer special services to welfare recipients – as long as they agree to get married.
Number Four: A whole new way to risk your life for your country.
Bush supports prohibiting military women serving abroad from receiving safe medical abortions at military hospitals even if they pay for the procedure with personal funds. Women leaving the base to obtain abortions must obtain permission from their commanders.
Number Three: But women are already 1.2 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs!
Bush slammed the door shut on the White House Office for Women’s Initiatives and Outreach, which sought input from advocacy groups about public policy and political issues affecting women. His 2004 budget eliminated funding for the Women’s Educational Equity Act to promote equity for girls and women in education.
Number Two: Physician, heal thyself.
The Bush administration nominated a doctor who has written about Christ’s ability to heal women’s illnesses to chair the Food and Drug Administration’s Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee. The good news? He didn’t become the chair. The bad news? He is now serving as a member of the committee, which plays an important role in creating women’s health policy.
Number One: Juggle this.
Under the guise of helping women juggle the demands of career and family, Bush is pushing the so-called “Family Time Flexibility Act,” which allows employers to deny overtime pay and offer comp time instead.
The happiest of times to you on your very special day!
And to all the other Fabulous Birthday people as well!
A big heartfelt Congratulations goes out to a fabulous couple that decided to make it official!
I wish you many years of wedded bliss!
Things are going to be slow in blog land for me for awhile as much work needs to be done. I hope I’ll be able to post but more than likely they will be short and few for this week. I hope everyone is doing well and I’ll see you later.
Do you ever have one of those days where whatever you say or do is wrong?
Well, welcome to my world. We have a nice corner to kick you in.
In the harsh cruel grey light of day I can say that I took last nights meeting too personally. Unfortunately, now I feel that I lost my safe place to express myself and I don’t know if I’ll ever get that feeling back. I feel sick to my stomach.
I went into this meeting feeling empowered that I was going to have a voice in these meetings but I ended up feeling nothing but disappointment tonight. The whole meeting started off great but in the end I felt like I was attacked by my beliefs of wanting to include men, not into our group but into the reality that if we wanted anything changed in this world we needed to include men in our scenario of it. I felt like I was wrong for even thinking of men but in the reality of the world don’t we need to? I don’t know what the answer is but I do know that by excluding people we are only hurting ourselves.
In response to the question, “What is a MUFF meeting?” I say, it’s a meeting of amazing, intelligent, beautiful, insightful woman that want to make a difference in our world. MUFF stands for Many United For Feminism. We haven’t all decided on a name yet but this one is my favorite so I’m using it until we pick an “official” name on Wednesday.
I decided that it was time for me to stop hiding behind my life and start paying attention to what was going on outside my little sphere. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your view, I became completely overwhelmed with what I was learning. I was feeling helpless and hopeless about the state of the world and our nation. Luckily, I have an amazing friend EQ who had been feeling the same way and wanted to start a feminist reading group so we could have a safe place to discuss our new found enlightenment. Well after the first meeting I knew two things for sure, one that we had something special here and two that we definitely were not a reading group. The energy in the room was contagious as we discussed what we wanted from our group, so many amazing ideas and different experiences to help get our juices flowing. We discuss issues that are important to us and all woman and we are already making plans for the March on Washington in April ’04.
All I know is that I feel way more empowered and less negative since we started meeting and hopefully we can bring about some much needed change for the better.
At least we can try!
So many things have been going on in the last couple of weeks that I thought I would just list a few.
*two weddings- one in Healdsburg, one in Sonoma-both lovely
